Celebrating 100 Years: Royal Canadian Mint's 2026 Legion Centennial Coins (2026)

The Royal Canadian Mint Unveils 2026 Legion Centennial Coins: A Historical Tribute

In a significant milestone, the Royal Canadian Mint is celebrating the 100th anniversary of The Royal Canadian Legion with a series of exquisite collectibles. This special release marks a century since the Legion's incorporation, and it's a testament to the organization's enduring legacy. The mint has crafted three remarkable coins: a 2026 $100 gold coin, a 2026 silver dollar, and a 2026 Silver Proof Set, each capturing the essence of the Legion's rich history.

The 2026 $100 gold coin, designed by the talented Laurie McGaw, is a masterpiece of symbolism. Its reverse side tells a story of the Legion's past, present, and future. One side portrays two modern-day Legion members in their dress uniforms, while the other transports us back to the First World War era. It features a Canadian infantryman, an S.E.5a fighter aircraft, and the silhouette of HMCS Niobe, a vessel linked to Canada's early naval history. The design is adorned with poppies, symbolizing ongoing remembrance and unity.

The 2026 silver dollar, designed by Steve Hepburn, showcases two Legion members standing in remembrance before a maple leaf, a nod to the Legion's official crest. Below, 14 poppies represent Canada's provinces and territories, along with international branches, and a forget-me-not flower, a symbol of remembrance in Newfoundland and Labrador. The design is completed with a banner displaying the years 1926 and 2026, emphasizing the centennial theme. The 2026 Silver Proof Set includes a selectively rose gold-plated version of this silver dollar, adding a touch of luxury.

All these coins share an obverse side featuring the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, designed by Steven Rosati. This coin is available for purchase online through the Mint's store or at various physical locations, including the Mint's Ottawa and Winnipeg boutiques, select Canada Post locations, and through its network of dealers and distributors.

Beyond the Legion centennial coins, the Royal Canadian Mint has introduced a range of additional collector products, including the 2026 $10 Fine Silver Coin in various themes, the 2026 $1 Coin as a keychain, and gift sets for special occasions. These products are available on the Mint's website, offering collectors a diverse and captivating selection to commemorate this historic year.
