Berkshire Health Systems has dedicated the Fairview Hospital Laboratory to Eugene Dellea, a former president of Fairview and Hillcrest Hospital, and a senior leader at BHS for decades. This dedication is a fitting tribute to his remarkable legacy of service to healthcare in Berkshire County. The ceremony, held on June 29, brought together a diverse group of guests, including Dellea's family, friends, local elected officials, BHS trustees and staff, and Fairview employees. The event celebrated his decades of dedication to healthcare in the Berkshires, his leadership at Hillcrest and Fairview, and his lasting impact on patients, colleagues, and the community. Speakers reflected on his contributions, with Select Board Chair Stephen Bannon presenting Dellea with a special citation recognizing his lifelong commitment to the health and wellness of Berkshire County residents. The celebration also recognized the anonymous donors who contributed $1 million for the laboratory's renovation, improving infrastructure, diagnostic technology, and patient convenience. The hospital is undergoing a $70 million renovation, including a new emergency department, MRI system, and surgical suite, with a geothermal system for heating and cooling. The project is expected to be completed by 2028, ensuring the hospital remains accessible and functional during construction. This dedication and renovation highlight the importance of honoring healthcare leaders and investing in infrastructure to enhance patient care and community health.
